Jeffrey Rogers Hummel is Professor in the Economics Department at San Jose State University and has taught both history and economics. He is the author of Emancipating Slaves, Enslaving Free Men: A History of the American Civil War (the second edition of which was released in November 2013). He received his Ph.D. in history from the University of Texas at Austin.
Professor Hummel has been William C. Bark National Fellow at Stanford University’s Hoover Institution, Publications Director at the Independent Institute, and a U.S. Army tank platoon leader.
