Money School, which helps give survivors of domestic abuse and sexual assault the skills they need to manage their finances independently, is returning in the weeks ahead.

AIER co-founded the program with the Elizabeth Freeman Center last year, and the center is set to provide three cycles of Money School in western Massachusetts. They have workshops planned for Pittsfield (3/15 – 4/12), North Adams (4/26 – 4/26), and Great Barrington (4/26 – 5/26). They expect 12-18 participants at each five-week workshop.

Because of the buzz created from our work last year, they have a waiting list for this year’s workshops. They will use AIER Money School booklets and supplement these with their own materials appropriate to the participants in each cycle. The workshops will be led by a domestic violence survivor who spoke to Money School last year on employment opportunities.

The Massachusetts Rural Economic Security Task Force recently praised the program as a power way to deliver financial literacy to vulnerable populations. They noted our focus on finding a partner in the community, building connections with local organizations, and bringing on local bankers to provide individual counseling. The Task Force partners are very enthusiastic about Money School, its growth, and growing impact.

To inquire about the program, including the waiting list, contact Donna at the Elizabeth Freeman Center at 413-499-2425 extension 613, or donnal@elizabethfreemancenter.org.
