Sound Money Fellow named Chief Economist of Senate Banking Committee
The Atlas Network’s Sound Money Project is proud to announce that Dr. Thomas L. Hogan has accepted an appointment as Chief Economist of the Senate Banking Committee. Although this means that he will be stepping down from his role as a SMP Fellow, we could not be more excited to have such a talented and committed free-banker here in Washington; Dr. Hogan’s appointment will undoubtedly be good for both the liberty movement and the country as a whole.
Dr. Hogan is an Assistant Professor of Finance at the Manuel H. Johnson Center for Political Economy at Troy University, although per his appointment, he has taken a leave of absence. Prior to this, he was an Assistant Professor of Economics at West Texas A&M University. Dr. Hogan earned his Ph.D. in Economics from George Mason University in 2011, where he studied under Dr. Lawrence H. White, and his M.B.A. from the University of Texas at Austin in 2007. He wrote his dissertation on money, banking, and finance. He also specializes in international development and Austrian economics. His research interests include commercial banking, financial institutions, and monetary theory. Dr. Hogan has worked for Merrill Lynch’s commodity trading group and as a derivatives trader for hedge funds in the U.S. and Europe. He is also a former consultant to the World Bank.
We are excited to see the good that Dr. Hogan’s tenure will surely bring to Washington and would like to pledge our full support to him and his work.
