“The economic and moral arguments for sound money”
The Atlas Network is proud to sponsor a research grant opportunity for students, young faculty and policy experts who are interested in championing the cause of sound money and a better understanding of sound monetary institutions.
Description:
The Atlas Network is sponsoring four research grants in order to raise awareness and promote knowledge about sound money and to identify young talent. Grants are available to junior faculty, policy experts, and graduate students in the US.
Proposals must address one of the essay topics listed below (or a combination of them.) Essays will be judged on the basis of clarity of thought, understanding of the topic at hand and the level of originality of the author’s contribution to the field.

- Brief Description of the research Project:
– Explain the intended research and what aspect of sound money or monetary policy you will be focusing on. – The hypothesis or argument that the paper will analyze.
– Which tools and methodology you will utilize in the writing of your paper. - Project Timeline: As a reference you should plan to conclude your research before March 15th
- Expected Impact of the Project: What do you think will be the academic or policy impact that could come of your research?
Guidelines:
- Papers must be written in English
- Papers must be an original work written by the submitter and must not have been previously published elsewhere.
- Papers should not exceed 30 pages.
- The paper should be written in a style accessible to the educated layperson but rigorous enough as to be able to be used in a college or university course.
- Final papers will become the property of the Atlas Network and may be published in print or electronically. However, authors may later submit their papers to other outlets.
Deadlines:
1) 9/15/2015: Proposals to be submitted
2) 9/30/2015: Atlas to announce winning proposals
3) 3/15/2016: Final papers to be submitted
Suggested essay topics:
1) Money, liberty and morality: The moral case for sound money in a free society.
2) Sound money through the ages: An exploration of the moral history of sound money.
3) Inflation and the poor: An exploration of how discretionary monetary policy targets low income earners
4) Cronyism and Sound Money: Can sound money help prevent cronyism?
5) Money as a tool of the state: Implications for cronyism
Feel free to use your own title related to the overall theme.
Eligibility:
To be eligible, you must be 35 years of age or younger, a junior faculty member, policy expert at a think-tank or a graduate student from a fully accredited US university.
Prizes:
Four $5,000.00 research grants will be awarded
Submitting your proposal:
Email your research proposal as a PDF document to SoundMoneyProject@AtlasNetwork.org on or before 9/15. In your email, you must include your name, mailing address and your affiliation along with the research topic you hope to undertake.
