Bloomington, Ind.

< BACK to CDI TOOL
Home to the Indiana University Hoosiers, Bloomington draws college students for more than sports. The town is centered around Courthouse Square, which is populated by restaurants, bars, bookshops, and art shops. This cycling-mad city is one of the most accessible, with more than 10 percent of residents biking and walking to these local hotspots. For a town of its size, Bloomington offers a mind-blowing array of ethnic eateries. With immense diversity in the town, you can find everything from Burmese to Eritrean to Turkish food. Needless to say, the food and entertainment scene is among the most notable of the college towns. The population of the city increases by 20,000 people in mid-April for the Little 500, a play on the Indy 500 stock-car race, where amateurs ride one-speed Schwinns for 200 laps around a track.
