Atlanta

< BACK to CDI TOOL
Atlanta continues to attract students seeking a metropolitan setting in the South. Its quality-of-life indicators are exceedingly strong on the measure of bars and restaurants, and the city is racially diverse. Even though MARTA—the Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority—ran its first subway service in 1979, car dependency is relatively high; less than 5 percent of commuters use other modes of transportation. In part, this reflects the sheer size of the region, with its 30 counties and more than 8,000 square miles.
