Amarillo, Texas

< BACK to CDI TOOL
Amarillo earned its No. 18 slot for its favorable economic climate and good quality of life. At first glance, the town may seem much like its surrounding landscape --nondescript. However, dig a little deeper and students will discover the San Jacinto District, home to Amarillo’s shopping, dining, and entertainment district. As in most of Texas, one will need a car or at least a ride-share to get from point A to B, since there is virtually no public transit system. Another attraction is beef, the big local industry, including a starring role for the Big Texan Steak Ranch. As a blue-collar city, less than a quarter of the population has earned a BA.
