Chapter Director

Glen Lyons spent his career at ExxonMobil, in many parts of the corporation and in many capacities for more than 35 years before retiring in 2022. His last role was leading ExxonMobil’s U.S. policy and regulatory advocacy for the electricity sector where he had a front row seat to typically well intended but woefully misguided legislative and regulatory efforts. Glen also served as chairman of the Texas Industrial Energy Consumers (TIEC), the largest industrial electricity consumer trade association and as a member of ERCOT’s board of directors. Since retiring Glen has provided consulting services to the Texas Oil & Gas Association (TXOGA) and written several op-eds, comments on a federal agency filing, and two white papers. One of those papers was accepted for presentation at the United States Association for Energy Economics’ annual national conference.

Glen is a staunch free marketer and supporter of organizations which are likeminded including AIER, the Foundation for Economic Education (FEE), the Cato Institute, the Hoover Institute, and the Mercatus Center. “My journey to understanding the power of free markets was too reliant on luck. The Bastiat Society can help provide an easier path for other Houstonians.”
