About the American Institute for Economic Research (AIER) Mission: To advance the welfare of the American people by helping them protect their personal interests and those of the Nation.

Funding: AIER is a 501(c)3 nonprofit research and educational organization that represents no financial interests other than that of the general public. AIER accepts no funding from either government or large corporations and has no commercial connection with any outside enterprises.
AIER’s financial support comes primarily from small annual fees from thousands of sustaining members, from sales of publications, from tax-deductible contributions, and from the earnings of its wholly owned investment advisory organization, American Investment Services, Inc.
Primary Activities:
- RESEARCH AND PUBLICATIONS: AIER develops and disseminates a variety of educational publications, including twice monthly Research Reports and the monthly Economic Education Bulletin, to inform readers about issues and trends affecting their personal finances and national economic and monetary policy. AIER sells more than 100,000 publications each year, not including those provided to Sustaining Members.
- BUSINESS CYCLE CONDITIONS: AIER monitors, analyzes and provides monthly information to members and the public regarding business-cycle conditions and trends, including changes in the primary leading, coincident, and lagging statistical indicators of business-cycle activity.
- ACADEMIC EDUCATION: AIER sponsors a variety of fellowship programs that provide direct training and financial support to advanced students of economics and distinguished economic scholars.
- CONFERENCES: AIER organizes and hosts conferences and seminars on national economic and monetary policy, public finance, and other important topics that deserve more attention from scholars, journalists and the public.
Issues of Interest: Among the issues in which AIER has a special interest and has developed special expertise are Social Security, Medicare, retirement planning, estate planning, home ownership, life insurance, annuities, budgeting, investment scams and identity theft, property rights, sound monetary policy, globalization, and the economic aspects of immigration.

Progress Foundation is AIER’s sister organization located in Zurich, Switzerland. Like AIER, Progress Foundation was founded by E.C. Harwood and serves the public by conducting and disseminating independent research that foster greater understanding of the factors that contribute to human progress.
