The Consumer Economist works as part of the research team to research topics and write articles and booklets for consumers on various personal finance subjects. This position reports to the Director of Research and Education.
Duties and Responsibilities: - Conduct in-depth research on consumer economic or personal finance topics and compile results in written articles of varying length for publication and dissemination to the public. The goal is to provide the average person with information and guidance that will help with common but sometimes complex financial problems. Topics include retirement planning, debt management, budgeting, personal saving, major financial decisions (buying a house or car), estate and tax issues, personal investing, and elder care.
- Contribute to statistical research activities by collecting data, performing statistical analysis, preparing charts and tables, and maintaining databases.
- Attend and contribute to staff meetings, assist in the review of other staff members’ written work, and aid in various “housekeeping” tasks, such as replying to correspondence from readers and maintaining files.
Qualifications and Skills: - Masters degree in economics or finance, or Bachelors degree with equivalent work experience.
- Excellent writing skills.
- Self-starter – able to take research project from start to finish.
- Attention to detail.
- Strong Microsoft Word and Excel skills.
- Fluency in the English language.
- Must be able to meet deadlines.
