Senior Fellow Kerry A. Lynch was recently interviewed by The Springfield Republican for an article on unemployment trends in Massachusetts. "Mass. unemployment rate of 9.5% is highest in nearly 34 years," ran in the March 4 issue. The section quoting Lynch is below:
Economist Kerry A. Lynch, a senior fellow at American Institute for Economic Research in Great Barrington, said employment growth typically lags other economic indicators, such as the gross national product, in a recovery.
“Our data suggests that the recession is probably over,” she said.
Lynch said she fears though that jobs lost in manufacturing and construction might never come back.
“I don’t think we are going to see another construction boom for a long while,” she said.
