AIER is seeking experienced economics researchers with interests and experience in macroeconomics and/or finance. These positions report to the Director of Research and Education.
The Research Associate position requires a Master’s in economics or a related field or a Bachelor’s degree with at least five years of relevant experience. The Research Associate is a junior member of the research staff responsible for collecting data, preparing charts and tables, maintaining databases, performing preliminary research, and writing articles for AIER publications, with some guidance from senior staff.
The Research Fellow position requires a PhD in economics or a related field or a Master’s degree with at least five years of relevant experience. The Research Fellow is a key member of the research staff responsible for writing, updating, and editing the primary publications of the Institute. The Research Fellow may also assist with the Summer Fellowship Program, including teaching.
The Senior Fellow position requires a PhD in economics, finance, or a related field with at least five years of relevant experience or a Master’s degree with at least ten years of relevant experience. The Senior Fellow is a senior member of the economic research staff with increasing responsibility for writing, updating, and editing the primary publications of the Institute. The Senior Fellow also is a mentor for junior staff and an instructor in the Summer Fellowship Program. The Senior Fellow may lead major projects, research programs, and AIER efforts in joint programs with outside research groups.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Conduct literature reviews;
- Review and analyze the economic and financial news, as well as releases of economic and financial data by government and other sources;
- Make on-campus and off-campus speeches and presentations, teach in the educational programs of the Institute, engage in promotional activities such as media interviews, op-ed pieces, and video presentations;
- Plan and conduct empirical, applied, and/or policy research, and write articles based on this research suitable for AIER publications;
- Apply econometric methods to compute estimates, forecasts, and test hypotheses;
- Attend conferences and otherwise promote AIER and support its mission.;
- Work closely and cooperatively with the Creative Director/Editor and the Director of Research and Education in editing and revision efforts on any articles or reports;
Other Duties and Responsibilities:
- Brief or advise the Director of Research and Education as requested;
- Attend and contribute to regular staff meetings;
- Stay up-to-date on the latest economic research and methodologies;
- Aid in various “housekeeping” tasks, such as replying to correspondence from readers and maintaining files;
- Review other staff members’ written work.
